An old barn from generations past still stands on the four and a half acres around Legato Living at Heartland Hills. A large wrap-around deck was built just for taking in the view and the quiet.
The home sits on 36th Street, south of Capehart, in Bellevue, NE. All ten residents live on the same level of the house, which gives your family member a real chance to get to know the others and join in activities as a group. Legato Living has one focus, memory care, including Alzheimer's and other types of dementia.
Why a Small Home Works at Heartland Hills
Large group settings can be overstimulating, and often overwhelming, for someone living with the confusion of dementia. In a single-family house, residents can keep much of the lifestyle they were used to. With fewer staff to get to know and fewer people living with them, residents are more at peace, and families gain a sense of security.
Greg and Alicia Zuger, the Owners of Heartland Hills
Greg and Alicia Zuger own Legato Living at Heartland Hills. Greg graduated from Creighton Prep and worked in construction for nearly 20 years. Alicia earned a business degree from Bellevue University. She spent nearly 20 years in child welfare as co-owner and executive director of Apex Foster Care. Both were close to their grandparents and helped them as they aged. They want families to know their family member will be treated like their own.
Care and Home Cooking at Heartland Hills
Every resident gets their own Plan of Care when they move in. It covers things like bathing, dressing, dietary needs, communication and personal preferences. Staff cook meals in the home from four seasonal menus. There are three balanced meals a day, plus drinks and snacks in the morning, afternoon and evening. Modified diets are available for residents who have trouble swallowing. Legato trains its staff in Teepa Snow techniques, a well-known set of hands-on and communication methods for caring for people living with dementia.
