The AFC program (Adult Foster Care Program) is a State funded MassHealth program. The program pays caregivers that are taking care of a friend or family member, living in the same household that is physically or mentally disabled. Services are provided at no cost to the caregiver or MassHealth member. To qualify for the program, the person being cared for must have MassHealth Standard or MassHealth CommonHealth. They must be 16 years of age or older and be unable to live alone due to a medical, physical, cognitive, or mental health condition. The AFC program can be a lifeline for some families and can transform lives. The program allows seniors and those with a physical or mental disability to remain in the familiar comforts of their home and in the community. Servicing a large area of Massachusetts, Healthier You Wellness Partners, LLC is a COA accredited agency that is licensed by the state to administer the AFC program. They offer compassionate care and resources through their various assistance and wellness programs. Through the agency, AFC program applicants may be eligible to receive a monthly tax-free stipend payment ranging between $700.00 and $1425.00 per month depending on the level of daily care that is provided by the caregiver. The tax-free stipend payments do not affect eligibility for other government programs such as public housing, food stamps or unemployment.
