The Cedars is a 5 star, 65 bed, non-profit, senior living community that has been serving the community since 1994. The Cedars offers Residential and Assisted Living, Short-Term Rehabilitation, Skilled Nursing, Long Term Care and Outpatient Therapy.
During the 1960s and into the 1970’s, the Leo Apostolic Christian Church became interested in establishing a “home for the elderly” on a 73-acre site at the intersection of Klopfenstein and Grabill roads. The land had been owned by Sister Louisa Schlatter, who passed away in 1970. On the day in 1971 that the property was to be auctioned, 10 brothers from the church travelled to the location and promised to give Brother David Bertsch their support as he bid on the land. The bidding stopped at $910.00 per acre. Following the sale, it was learned that a builder/developer had come prepared to bid up to $1,500.00 per acre; but when he heard of the proposed plan for the property to serve as a place for the community’s elders to call home, he stopped bidding.
Construction of a 42-bed nursing facility began in 1992. Since then, Cedar Creek Retirement Community, as it was named, has grown. It now includes a full continuum of care from villas to nursing services. Welcome to The Cedars!
