Canterbury Court, located in Atlanta, GA offers independent living, assisted living & memory care.

We put our hearts into creating a true retirement community.
Our retirement community in Atlanta, GA is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization. We reinvest revenue into our community for the benefit of residents and staff.

Our History
Our retirement community history began when Canterbury Court was the inspiration of two visionaries. Frank Player and Margaret Hancock, members of Atlanta’s All Saints’ Episcopal Church and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, respectively, solicited their rectors to sponsor All Saints’-St. Luke’s Episcopal Home for the Retired, Inc., also, and to this day, known as Canterbury Court.

Their idea was to create a community where older adults could live and share a joyful lifestyle, with a continuum of care to meet changing needs.

The plan was realized in 1965, as we became Atlanta’s first Life Plan Community – what some call a CCRC (continuing care retirement community). True to our founders’ vision, residents enjoy life-easing services and amenities for an independent lifestyle, plus access to assisted living and skilled nursing if ever needed.

Our Vision
Our retirement community vision is to cultivate lives of purpose and possibility. Our residents have led meaningful lives prior to coming to Canterbury Court and continue to do so each day. Life at Canterbury Court fosters social connectedness and provides opportunities to continue to learn, develop new interests and hobbies, and share new experiences with others.

Our Mission
To reach our vision, our retirement community mission is weaving together a tapestry of lives. Through the interconnected relationships of residents, associates, family members, and community partners, we create an intricate, beautiful tapestry that is Canterbury Court.

Our Growth
Our retirement community growth has expanded and evolved through the years, anticipating the needs and wishes of contemporary residents. Today, our four towers include the original Club Tower; the Peachtree Tower, opened in 1991; the Vermont Tower, opened in 2005; and the Garden Tour, opened in 2023. The retirement community buildings overlook one of the most-loved features of our 11-acre campus – our expansive gardens – and are connected, offering easy access to a wide range of amenities and common spaces for resident use.

In addition, in 2023 we opened Monarch Pavilion, the new home for our continuing care services including:
Azalea View: Assisted living;
Wisteria Park: The Madeline and Howell E. Adams, Jr. Memory Support; and
Sage Glen: Skilled Nursing
Located in the heart of campus, Monarch Pavilion is a wonderful neighborhood where residents will get the great healthcare they need, delivered by our outstanding team members with the warm, person-centered approach one would expect from Canterbury Court.
Our Culture
Immediately, you’ll notice the retirement community culture feels different here – more appealing than you might expect from a retirement community. The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming with an inclusive feeling of Southern hospitality. The intimate size brings people together socially and even spiritually. And very quickly, you’ll sense that you’re home.

That’s your heart speaking to you. We understand, because we’ve put our heart into creating a true community that feels just right.
